Forget Italy’s gorgeous white sandy beaches, let’s face it, the Italian lakes are idilyc. Crystal clear waters with the perfect mountain backdrops in authentic Italian towns, what more could you want?
Romantic settings and beautiful whatever the weather, and all accessible from Milan in an hour and a half or less ! Here are my top picks !
Bellagio – Lago Di Como
The pearl of lake Como, accessible by ferry from Varenna or bus from Como town. Authentic cobbled streets, full of winery’s and Italian bistros, a walking town, oozing glamour, famous for its view and waterside villas. A must see !
Italys largest lake, often overshadowed by Como! Why don’t we hear more about Garda? Italy’s largest lake, blessed with a diverse landscape, with Venice to the east and Milan to the west, remains curiously uncelebrated, though Garda has so much to offer.
Stresa, a Lake Maggiore town, with a ringside view of sunrise and sundown over the lake, an air of elegance and a feeling of tranquility. Stresa is the perfect destination to meander along the promenade and explore the cobbled streets of the old town; an escape from busy city life.
Only half an hour away from Milan, Como’s leafy lake side & stone-paved streets seem a world away. The best way to see Como, in my opinion, is to rent a little pedalo for €5 and get those legs of yours in action, so much fun! And unfortunately I didn’t find George Clooney 😦
When you arrive in Lecco you are greeted with charming side streets laced with authentic gelaterias and family run restaurants and business ! This itself was a joy to explore ! Then as you walk down to the lake front you are welcomed with this amazing view !
Switzerland – Lago Di Lugano
Lugano is a quaint and tranquil small lake side town in Switzerland. It is only 1 Wee hour from Milan, Italy. Due to it being so close to Italy it very much has an Italian culture. It has the Italian mantra but just a little more sleepy, like Lecco.
