Cruise Diaries – Day 1 & 2

Thomson Celebration: Grecian Legends

Day 1 & 2 – Travelling & Dubrovnik

I’d never been on a cruise before so I was really excited but slightly nervous ( blame Titanic)! We headed to the airport for our 6am flight, checked in and we were on our way. For the cruise we flew to Dubrovnik, and what I found really unusual is you check in your bags at your departure airport and then don’t see them again until you check in to your cabin! This was fab because there was no hanging around when we landed!

The first day was spent doing all the admin stuff on board like setting up our onboard account and unpacking of course and exploring the ship. The ship has so many ammeneities from a casino to a spa. After a well deserved nap we got ready for the night ahead, we had a beautiful dinner in the Meridian Restaurant & then headed up on deck to watch the beautiful Croatian sunset!

After a well earned rest in our cabin we woke up feeling refreshed and ready for a day exploring Dubrovnik! At the port you will get hassled for a taxi in to the old town, which is €13, we however, found the bus terminal and paid €1 each for a return ticket which drops you right smack bang in the middle of Dubrovnik old town! We headed up the hill towards the cable car ride, which was so easy to find. €15 per adult, a 4 minute journey up and down, but boasting the most spectacular panoramic view !

After that we headed around the city walls and down to the beautiful little Harbor for some ice cream! Dubrovnik is just such a lovely place to walk around in, it felt so tranquil and actually wasn’t too full of tourists.

One day in Dubrovnik just wasn’t enough, I will definitely be back to explore the narrow cobbled streets with a surprise round every corner ! We headed back to the ship for 6pm as we were sailing through the night to our next destination! A night filled with alcohol and more delicious food !

Have you ever been to Dubrovnik? What did you enjoy doing most ? I really enjoyed my first 2 days of my cruise, have any of you cruised before ?

  1. I loooooved Dubrivnik. I think next time I go I would like to go in winter when it isn’t as crowded and you have more of a chance of mingling with the locals. We went last summer and it was packed full of tourists which made it harder to see things. Great post and photos!

  2. Yes I went there in May and in the middle of a 2 month long trip. It was my favorite stop. It’s such a charming little town. I really enjoyed it’s location for day trips, as in heading to Montenegro, Albania and Bosnia too. I have yet to do a cruise yet. Who did you go with a group of friends or family?

  3. I have never been on a cruise either but I would love to, especially in the Mediterranean. I have visited Dubrovnik a few years ago, coming with a 6am bus from Mostar. I was so lucky, because I got to walk from the bus station to the old town while the sun was rising and then explore the beautiful shadows raising on the white marble of Dubrovnik. I was the only one there, it was so nice to have a coffee on the empty main street. As soon as the cruisers arrived, Dubrovnik transformed from this charming beautiful town into chaos. 🙂

  4. I love cruising but have only done it in the Caribbean. A cruise in Croatia sounds lovely. I haven’t been yet, but want to visit Dubrovnik and Split.
